Moving to another country is far more challenging than moving from one state of a country to another state of the same country. Whether you're moving to Osan Air Base, Camp Humphreys, or any other military base in Korea, we know the struggle of a PCS to Korea. That’s why we decided to share 5 tips that would help you and your family during your smooth transition.
1. Paperwork is crucial
First thing first, paperwork is an essential thing that you should do before shifting. As far as the military is concerned, the military always prioritizes paperwork, even for military housing. And when it comes to changing to another country, they never forget to have the legal paperwork done. So, whenever you decide on a PCS move, you must not forget to do paperwork.
2. Contact your Overseas Sponsor
The second thing that you have to keep in mind is that you should contact with your overseas sponsor to get the details about the area that you are shifting to. You can ask the following question:
Tell me about the Military housing facilities provided in that area.
What about the kids’ schooling facilities there?
What are the significant facilities in that Military housing scheme?
These questions would help you a lot in your shift. You can make the strategies for your stay there, and you can also pack the things that you will need there accordingly. So, it would help if you contact your overseas sponsor before your PCS move.
3. Learn Greetings in the Local Language
Another thing that most people ignore while transferring from one country to another is the language. Whenever you are shifting to another country, keep in mind that their language and civilization are different from you, and you have to learn a few phrases so that you can interact with the people easily. For example, if you are working in the air force, you can learn to know the best route to your air base in the local language of the country where you are shifting. It will make it easier for you to head towards your air base in a new country.
4. Crate Packing & Shipping Luggage Overseas
Here comes a thing of significant concern. You have to pack your luggage in the crates so that cargo can shift your luggage to your new dwelling. You have to keep in mind that you have to pack your crate in such a way that they can’t get damaged in the entire shifting process. Seal your glass items with a bubble sheet between them so that any jerks can’t affect them and you receive your items safe and sound on the other side.
5. Vaccination of You and Your Pets
We all know that we can also take our pets with us in our overseas PCS move, but what you should never take for granted is that vaccination of you and your pets that are traveling with you. Although your pet is healthy and sound, it can get rabies and other infections from so many other pets in the plane, so you have to keep them safe. For this purpose, you must ensure the vaccination that will keep you and your pet safe! So, never forget to get your vaccination done before you board the plane for an entirely new country.
