The Osan Air Base: Guide for Mold Issue

The season came back. The season of our discomfort index hit the sky roof due to high humidity and high temperature. The Korean meteorologist predicted the monsoon season will start either late June or early July. Some of you probably remember about the 2020 Monsoon season in Korea. That was the second-longest monsoon season since we started to measure.

Even though monsoon season hasn’t started yet, we already had so many rainy days past two months. Well, the first thing is first. All we can do is prevent us from any danger during this season. The biggest enemy of humidity is mold. As I always tell Kim’s family & friends, mold can be prevented with little effort of yours. Let’s see what method you can do to prevent our ultimate enemy “MOLD”.

I totally understand Korean air quality is really bad. Also, it is hard to open the window before you go to work since the weather is so unpredictable. However, you don’t have to open the window all the time. Preventing mold from our precious living space is quite simple. All you need to do is open a few windows at least 10mins a day. That is it. So easy, right? This small habit will prevent mold from the space and also prevent mold inside your AC unit.

Please turn your floor heat

I know it is crazy to turn your floor heat during the summertime. However, it can prevent mold on walls if you turn heat at least once or twice a month for about an hour or two. High heat will dry humidity from walls and wallpapers. I understand we are asking you too much, but this couple of hours of your effort will protect your family from mold.

Use AC wisely

Korean AC has a mode called “dehumidification”. However, this mode is hard to use because it is written in Korean. Well, dehumidification in Korean is 제습. You can keep press mode (모드) button until you see 제습 on the remote screen. If you use this mode during you are using the AC unit, it will be a big help to prevent mold from home.
